Legendary LV Hot Dog Chain Closing One of Its Stores

After over 100 years in business, the family-owned hot dog chain Yocco's is closing its Trexlertown location later this week. Gary Iacocca, the third-generation owner, announced in a Facebook post on Sunday that the shop at 7150 Hamilton Blvd. in Upper Macungie Township will serve its last customers on Thursday, December 21st. Iacocca said it was "with a heavy heart" that he is shutting down the Trexlertown Yocco's.

However, he assured fans of the brand that the other Lehigh Valley locations remain "secure for many years to come." Since Iacocca personally owns most of the Yocco's properties and the two leased shops have long-term lease renewals, the closure only impacts the one Trexlertown shop. After over a century of serving their signature hot dogs, Yocco's loyal customer base will still be able to visit the family-owned business at their various remaining locations across the Lehigh Valley.

Quaker Oats Recalls Granola Bars, Cereal Over Salmonella Risk

The Quaker Oats Company has issued a recall for select granola bars and granola cereals due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall includes certain varieties of Quaker Chewy granola bars, Quaker Puffed Granola, and Quaker Simply Granola cereals.

Salmonella infection can be especially dangerous in young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems, sometimes causing fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and in rare cases even death. Even those not in high-risk groups can become ill from the bacteria.

Anyone experiencing these salmonella symptoms after consumption of the recalled products is advised to contact their healthcare provider. All consumers should check their Quaker products and discard any items included in the voluntary recall. The specific production codes and "best by" dates for the recalled foods are available through the company's website and press releases regarding this health warning.

Eagles Clinch Third Straight Playoff Berth

The Philadelphia Eagles clinched a playoff spot this weekend as the 49ers and Lions won while the Packers and Falcons lost. This marks the Eagles' third consecutive playoff appearance. Next up for the 10-3 Eagles is a Monday Night Football matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

Philadelphia will look to snap its two-game losing streak, gain ground on the rival Dallas Cowboys in the race for the NFC East crown, and strengthen its chances at the NFC's number one seed. With back-to-back division titles and last year's top conference seed under their belt, the Eagles hope this postseason run can match or top last year's success. A win over Seattle would go a long way toward securing another division title and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Really?

Myth: St. Patrick was Irish. Truth: The patron saint of Ireland was actually born in Scotland in the late 4th century. When he was a teenager, Palladius (his real name) was kidnapped and sold into slavery in Ireland.

Six years later, he escaped and went back to Scotland, where he joined a monastery. As an adult, Palladius returned to Ireland as a missionary, where he lived for 40 years, dying in A.D. 461 (And he didn’t drive away any snakes—there weren’t any.)

Humor

Morris and his wife Esther went to the state fair every year, and every year Morris would say, "Esther, I'd like to ride in that helicopter." Esther always replied, "I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars."

One year when Esther and Morris went to the fair Morris said, "Esther, I'm 85 years old. This might be my last chance to ride that helicopter." Esther replied, "That helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and $50 is $50".

The pilot overheard them and said, "Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take both of you for a ride. If you stay quiet for the entire ride and don't say a word I won't charge you a penny! If you say one word it's fifty dollars."

Morris and Esther agreed. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers and daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word.

When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, "By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!"

Morris replied, "Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, but you know, fifty dollars is fifty dollars!"
