A Well-Established Spot Finds Renewed Life in Macungie
The recent acquisition of the property at 102 E. Main St. in Macungie, once home to The Pub on Main, now has new owners. They intend to embark on a comprehensive overhaul of both the interior and exterior, leasing the ground-floor commercial area to a local restaurateur. Dating back to the mid-19th century, this building was formerly known as the popular Macungie Pub.
Immediate plans involve the replacement of the front porch, followed by other exterior enhancements such as repainting the facade and setting up a new patio. Extensive renovations are slated for the pub area's interior, including the installation of new flooring, lighting, and kitchen facilities.
The two adjacent properties, hosting a total of 10 apartments, are also due for upgrades. This three-story structure, initially functioning as the Macungie Hotel in the 1840s, stands as a significant landmark in Macungie. The new owners are committed to preserving as much of its historical essence as possible. Anticipated completion of the restaurant's renovation is within 90 days, with an early February target set for its grand reopening.
Pennsylvania Senate Passes Bill Mandating Presence of Armed Guards in Schools
On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Senate approved a bill mandating schools in the state to maintain at least one armed guard present during school hours. Sponsored by Sen. Mike Regan, a Republican from Cumberland and York counties, the bill, known as SB 907, passed with a 30-19 vote split along party lines. It now proceeds to the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives for review. However, Governor Josh Shapiro stands in opposition to this measure.
UPMC Requires Masks as of December 20
Starting December 20, UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) will mandate face masks for all employees, patients, and visitors. This decision aligns UPMC with numerous health systems that have introduced mask mandates with the onset of autumn, a time when flu and other respiratory illnesses become more widespread. Pennsylvania is currently witnessing a significant increase in RVS cases, alongside rising flu cases and COVID-19 hospitalizations, as per the latest data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Bomb Threats Made Against PA Jewish Temples Including Allentown
According to Allentown police, Sons of Israel, an Orthodox Jewish synagogue, received a false report of a bomb, which is under investigation. Allentown police also investigated a hoax bomb threat against Congregation Keneseth Israel, a Reform Jewish synagogue in Allentown, on Oct. 19.
Porch Pirates Targeted by New Bill

Governor Josh Shapiro signed a bill that introduced a new criminal offense explicitly aimed at individuals who steal packages from home deliveries.
This legislation establishes the crime of "theft by mail," encompassing the illegal act of taking, transferring, or exerting unauthorized control over someone else's mail, including letters, parcels, bags, and similar items. Penalties become increasingly severe with subsequent offenses, determined by the value of the stolen item.
For a first offense involving an item valued at less than $200, the penalty includes a maximum of 90 days' imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $300. A second offense could result in a maximum of two years' imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
Regarding a first or second offense for stealing an item of higher value, the punishment involves a potential sentence of up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $10,000. A third or subsequent offense carries a penalty of up to seven years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $15,000.
