Borough Council Elections November 7
The upcoming Emmaus Borough Council election is marked by significant change as three incumbents choose not to run for re-election. With John Hart, Teri Sorg-McManamon, and Chris DeFrain stepping down, the local government faces a potential transformation with four open seats awaiting new representatives.
Six candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for these four-year positions on the Emmaus Borough Council. The contenders emphasize crucial issues such as fiscal responsibility and the management of plans to address PFAS contamination in the water supply.
Election day is set for November 7th, promising a pivotal moment for Emmaus residents to shape the future direction of our community.

Individual Found with Pipe Bomb in St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Room Receives Sentence
A man who brought a pipe bomb into St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison. Brian James Kunsman, 46, of Philadelphia, has been given a 77-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, for possessing an unregistered destructive device, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Thursday.
The incident occurred in October 2021 in the hospital’s emergency room. Kunsman, who had been admitted as a patient following a single-vehicle car crash in Lower Saucon Township, was found to have the homemade device in his backpack by a vigilant nurse.
Upon this discovery, Fountain Hill police promptly contacted the Allentown police bomb squad, which safely took control of the explosive device. Consequently, the emergency department had to be evacuated for four hours, and incoming trauma patients had to be redirected to other hospitals.
During the investigation, Fountain Hill police stated they believed Kunsman had inadvertently carried the device in his backpack and had no intention of causing harm at the hospital. Kunsman informed the police that he had constructed the device for self-defense.
This case was diligently investigated by the Allentown office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Fountain Hill Police Department, the Allentown bomb squad, and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

Eagles Fight Back To Beat Washington Commanders
Hurts threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns, two of them to A.J. Brown, as the defending NFC champions beat the Washington Commanders 38-31 Sunday. Behind their banged-up quarterback, the Eagles improved to 7-1 and showed more evidence they are a Super Bowl contender by rallying from a double-digit deficit.
Hurts had plenty of options passing, starting with Brown, who became the first player in NFL history with 125-plus yards receiving in six consecutive games. Brown made a terrific one-handed grab on his first touchdown and caught the ball through double coverage on his second.

Adam Johnson
American hockey player Adam Johnson, known for his brief stint in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins, tragically passed away following a "freak accident" during a game in England. The 29-year-old Minnesota native was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in a Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena. During the second period of the match, he suffered a slashed neck, leading to his untimely demise.
Johnson had played 13 games spread across the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League. Subsequently, he spent the 2020-21 season in Sweden with the Malmo Redhawks, contributing a goal and three assists for the Penguins.
Throughout his career, he also played for various American Hockey League teams, including the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in 2021-22. In 2022-23, he played in Germany with the Augsburg Panther before signing with Nottingham for the 2023-24 campaign. Johnson had appeared in 30 games with the Phantoms, scoring four goals and providing eight assists.

Really?
It was a Wash-Out
Three 19-year-olds—Nicholas Kalscheuer, Nicholas Fiumetto, and Andy Huynh—conspired to steal a case of beer from the Baja Ranch Market in Covina, California. While Huynh waited in the getaway car outside, Kalscheuer and Fiumetto grabbed the beer and made a run for it. Employees pursued them, leading to Kalscheuer's immediate capture. Fiumetto leaped into the car, with Huynh speeding away. However, their escape took a dramatic turn: they swerved to avoid hitting a store clerk, crashed into a curb, and came to a halt. By this point, the police had arrived, prompting the two men to abandon the car. Fiumetto tried to hide in a nearby car wash tunnel but ended up trapped among the brushes and water jets. When he finally extricated himself, soaking wet, law enforcement was waiting. Meanwhile, Huynh managed to flee but had left his ID in the car, leading to his swift capture shortly after.
Smile a Bit
Sandy and Bobby-Jo are going out for the evening. The last thing they do is put their cat out. The taxi arrives, and as the couple walk out of the house, the cat scoots back in. Terry returns inside to chase it out. Brenda, not wanting it known that the house would be empty, explains to the taxi driver, 'My husband is just going upstairs to say goodbye to my mother.'
Several minutes later, an exhausted Terry arrives and climbs back into the taxi saying, 'Sorry I took so long, the stupid idiot was hiding under the bed and I had to poke her with a coat hanger several times before I could get her to come out!'
