Sports News of Interest

Jalen Hurts Set to Play on Sunday

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni remains optimistic that Jalen Hurts, despite his ailing knee, will be ready for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field. However, Sirianni is cautiously hopeful, acknowledging the challenges of playing through pain.

The Eagles, with a 6-1 record, opted for a walkthrough instead of a regular practice as they prepare to face the Commanders, who are 6.5-point underdogs. In their previous encounter three weeks ago, the Eagles secured a 34-31 overtime victory against the Commanders.

During the Eagles' win against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday, Hurts wore a knee brace in the second half. Despite his injury, Hurts displayed impressive performance, notably with some crucial first downs, utilizing his running abilities effectively. However, the concerning issue for Hurts and the Eagles is his turnover problem. Hurts has accumulated 10 turnovers this season, ranking second in the NFL, with eight interceptions tying him for the league lead with Jimmy Garoppolo. Last year, Hurts had 13 turnovers, including seven fumbles.

Emmaus grad Annika Herbine Helps Iowa Field Hockey to Top-10 Ranking

Annika Herbine, a skilled junior hailing from Macungie and an alumna of Emmaus High, stands as a stalwart presence on the nationally acclaimed University of Iowa field hockey team. With an impressive track record of 56 games played across three seasons, Herbine's prowess extends beyond the collegiate field. In a testament to her talent, she earned a coveted spot on the 2023 United States Indoor Hockey World Cup team.

Under Herbine's adept leadership, Iowa, holding the eighth spot in the Division I coaches poll, boasts a commendable 12-4 overall record, with a 3-4 standing in the competitive Big Ten Conference. Notably, all four of their losses were against formidable ranked opponents. Her contributions extend to both offense and defense, having secured three goals and seven assists, accumulating 13 points. Defensively, she plays a pivotal role, aiding the team in maintaining a remarkable record of only 15 goals conceded (0.94 goals against average) and securing eight shutout victories. Her talent truly shone in the previous season when she delivered an outstanding performance, scoring eight goals from just 13 shots on goal, accompanied by seven assists and four game-winning goals.

Really?

In 2011 Benjamin North, 26, of Eureka, California, tried to make a purchase from his local Safeway using a stolen credit card. He might have gotten away with it, tooโ€”had he not assisted local sheriffโ€™s deputies in finding him by using his own Safeway Club Card in order to get a discount.

Suggestion: If youโ€™re a fugitive, donโ€™t post a message on your Facebook page saying, โ€œCatch me if you can. Iโ€™m in Brooklyn!โ€ Thatโ€™s what 29-year-old Victor Burgos did. He was wanted in Utica, New York, on domestic violence charges, and after finding out that his mug shot was on the โ€œTen Most Wantedโ€ list at the Utica Police Department, he decided to taunt the cops online. That was the break they needed. They tracked Burgos to a Brooklyn apartmentโ€ฆwhere they found him surfing Facebook.
